Mullingar Shamrocks gear up for THE KUBE (Westmeath Examiner)

All-Ireland hurling final referee Barry Kelly and Olympian Martin Fagan are just two of the well known faces taking part in the Mullingar Shamrocks ‘The Kube’ fundraiser on Saturday night next, January 31 in The Park Hotel.

Based on the popular TV show, this promises to be an entertaining and fun night for all the family, with some 40 participants taking part across eight initial heats.

Tickets are on sale from Maguire’s Butchers and Smiddy’s Bar, or from any club member. Ticket prices: adult €15, students €10, and families €35 (2 adults and 2 children).

Here’s a run-down of the contestants taking part on Saturday night:

Heat 1
Aidan ‘Mugs’ Mulligan: A very popular local man who should have plenty of support on the night.
Eddie Moore: Current senior player with the club Eddie can usually be found on the training pitch or in the gym… preparing for THE KUBE.
Conor Jordan: Conor lifted the Senior Hurling Cup for his club Raharney in 2014 and will be hoping for continued success this weekend.
Hannah Buchannan: Hannah runs a very successful running club at our grounds in Springfield. Another one to watch on the night.
Barry ‘Beaker’ Maguire: Former player with the club Barry now helps out with underage coaching in the club.

Heat 2
Aidan Daly: Our great clubman Aidan Daly, footballer, runner, cyclist. No end to his talents.
Ciaran Curley: A dual GAA player with Shamrocks and St Oliver Plunketts Ciaran will be determined to take the big prize home.
Beverly Doran: Beverley Gray originally from Dublin but now happily married in Mullingar. Enjoys exercise and cooking.
Ned Moore: Another Shamrocks legend, Ned captained our four in a row team in the 90s. As ever Ned wiil be determined to conquer all before him
Ray Gavin: A proud member of the Rochfortbridge and St Brigids GAA clubs in Westmeath. Current manager of the Longford Senior Hurling team.

Heat 3
Paul Mahon: A native of Milltown who has played football with his club for many years.
Ross Brady: Ross is a well know face around town and will have plenty of support on the night.
Malachy Flanagan: A Mayo man living in Longford and teaching Colaiste Mhuire.
Jo-hanna Maher: Tyrrellspass and Westmeath Ladies footballer, Jo-hanna’s ‘competitive’ nature makes her a strong contestant.
Daragh Daly: Probably the tallest member of the current senior squad, Daragh also has a passion for music. Former member of the ‘Rusty Nuts’ rock band.

Heat 4
Pearse Corroon: Mullingar Shamrocks legend and current chairman of the club. Pearse is sure to get the crowd going on the night.
Tom Ormsby: Another Shamrocks legend ‘Lofty’ will be keen to show off his athleticism.
Killian Daly: Killian or better known as ‘Fish’ is one of the most promising players in the club. A current member of the Westmeath U21 and senior squad, Fish is one to watch.
Karen Hegarty: A member of the Shamrocks and Westmeath ladies sides, Karen will be hoping to put in a big performance on the night.
Anthony Clinton: Anthony is a member of our Senior team and a highly competitve player. He’ll be looking to go all the way on the night.

Heat 5
Paul Ahearne: Former Shamrocks player and the current Senior Ladies manager, Paul will be as stylish as ever.
Seanie Daly: There should be short odds on ‘Red’ taking the title. Always a man for the big day.
Oisin Masterson: A past player and long supporter of the club Oisin will give his all.
Lisa Burke: Mullingar Shamrocks stalwart Lisa has done a lot prep work for The Kube and will be looking forward to any challenge that comes her way.
Niall Williams: Niall plays his football and hurling with Delvin GAA and he has recently taken up the role of Westmeath Ladies Manager.

Heat 6
Johnny Daly: The Mullingar Harriers runner and member of the All Ireland schools champion team will be eager to do well on the night.
Robert Ryan: Otherwise known as Rasher, plays football for Shamrocks and will not be phased by taking centre stage on the night.
Martin Fagan: One of the countries top runners and Olympian, Martin will be one to watch on the night.
Barry Kelly: One of the Countries top referees, Barry is also a teacher in St Finian’s and will have plenty support from his students.
Anna Gavin: Anna who is owner of Cloud Nine Creche will be anxious to do well on the night.

Heat 7
Steve Franzoni: Steve is more noted for his cycling but will be determined to do well in THE KUBE.
Maud-Annie Foley: Well known Kinnegad and Westmeath Ladies Footballer, Maud-Annie brings a cool head, speed and skill to the contest.
Patrick Fagan: Paddy is another one of our promising players. Also a noted runner and one of the fittest lads on the senior squad.
Donal O’Donoghue: Donie or Barron needs no introduction. Winner of a Leinster Senior medal with Westmeath in 2004 and an All Star nominee,
Denis Corroon: Denis was captain of last years Senior team which reached the County final and is another man that has experience on the stage. Has recently relocated to London.

Heat 8
Gary Corroon: A long time serving Shamrocks and well known local auctioneer. Also a noted darts player.
Alan Cashman: Known as ‘Cash’ and current member of the Shamrocks senior side. Strong contender to take the victory on the night.
Tony Dennehy: Born in Tralee, Co. Kerry Tony lives in Leixlip, Co. Kildare where he works in locally in Intel Ireland. Tony is an avid GAA supporter and also enjoys marathon running.
Daire Malone: Daire is carrying the Kildare flag, more used to following the dogs on a Saturday night.
Mickey Reily: A Mullingar Shamrocks legend there should be short odds on Mickey to go all the way.
